英会話教室に通い始めたきっかけ

私が英会話教室に通い始めたのは、小学生になる一年前のことです。
今でもよく覚えていますが、きっかけは母親に無理やり連れて行かれたことでした。父はそこまで教育熱心ではありませんでしたが、母はかなり教育に力を入れていたんです。

行きたくなかったけど…

正直、英会話教室には全然行きたくありませんでした。
でも、行くと必ず300円をおやつ代としてもらえたので、「仕方なく」通っていました（笑）。

サッカーを優先して

ただ、小学3年生になるとサッカーの練習にもっと時間を使いたいと思い、英会話教室をやめることにしました。

英語は得意なはずだったのに

「英語は得意だ」と思い込んでいた私は、中学生の頃ほとんど勉強をしませんでした。
そのツケが回ってきたのが高校時代。かなり苦労することになったんです…。

I started going to an English conversation school a year before I entered elementary school.
I still remember it clearly—the reason was that my mom forced me to go. My dad wasn’t that strict about education, but my mom was very enthusiastic about it.

To be honest, I didn’t want to go. But since I always got 300 yen as snack money whenever I went to English conversation school, I had no choice but to keep attending (lol).

However, by the time I was in third grade, I wanted to focus more on soccer practice, so I decided to quit the English conversation school.

Because I was confident that “English was my strong subject,” I barely studied during junior high school. That caught up with me in high school, where I really struggled…
